Welcoming Spring

Sun protective clothing is the best way to shield your skin from the sun's rays.

Spring has finally arrived after a long winter, and we're welcoming the warmer weather with open arms! After so many months spent indoors, it's time to go back outside and enjoy the sunlight.

However, it's important to enjoy your moments in the sun safely with appropriate sun protection.

There are many ways you can protect yourself and your family from the sun while participating in your favorite springtime activities.

While UPF50+ clothing is the best and most reliable way to protect your skin from the sun, there are other ways to make sure your skin stays safe from harmful UVA/UVB rays. There are also ways to protect the parts of your body that aren't covered in clothing, such as your face, head, and eyes.

Wearing UVA/UVB blocking sunglasses keeps your eyes safe and healthy.

One of the most highly-recommended forms of sun protection is sunscreen. Dermatologists suggest using a sunscreen that is SPF50+, as it will go further in protecting your skin from UVA/UVB rays.

Most sunscreens can protect the skin for up to two hours, so it's important to remember to reapply while you're basking in the sun's ray. You can learn more about what to look for in a sunscreen here

Other safety measures include staying in the shade during the sun's peak hours (10 am until 4 pm), avoiding tanning beds and tanning oils, and examining your skin after every afternoon in the sun.

To protect your eyes from sun damage, wear UVA/UVB blocking sunglasses and a hat with a brim over 3" wide while you're relaxing at the beach or having a picnic in the park. This will lessen the sun's damaging impacts on your eyes and the skin around them.

Sunlight is a gift to be embraced safely and mindfully (especially after so many months of snow and cold, cloudy weather!).

By protecting yourself from skin damage and premature ageing, you can enjoy your moments in the sun worry-free.
